On Tuesday 27 August 2024, a resident living near Snodland Road, Snodland, reported a break-in and the theft of a Mercedes vehicle using keys taken from inside his house.
At around 5.20am that day, officers in an unmarked vehicle saw the car on the A2 and using their blue lights and sirens attempted to stop the car, but it continued heading towards London and allegedly being driven in a dangerous manner.
Police patrols caused the vehicle to stop and two men were arrested by officers with the help of a police dog.
A man from Leytonstone, Greater London, and another from South Woodford, Greater London, were later charged by detectives with burglary and theft. The man from Leytonstone was also charged with dangerous driving. Both suspects, aged 20, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 28 August. They were remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on a date to be confirmed.
