Hold onto your helmets, folks! Next week, Folkestone town centre is about to get a whole lot wackier with a wheel-y wild event you won’t want to miss!

On Friday, 6 September, from 3pm to 7pm, Guildhall Street will transform into a zany festival of skating, cycling, games, music, and more. The town is quickly becoming the epicentre of urban sports and active travel, and this event is set to turbocharge its reputation.

Madcap lineup of fun:

  • Scorcha Skate School: Get ready to shred! They’re offering two free beginner-friendly halfpipe sessions for the young and daring. Learn the art of ramping, pumping, turning, and dropping in at 4pm and 5pm. Bring your own skateboard or borrow one!
  • Chaos Cards: Dive into a world of outdoor and tabletop games like Connect 4 and Le Passé. Plus, there’s a free Pokémon-themed workshop for kids aged 6-12, and guess what? Pikachu will be making a special appearance!
  • Cycling UK: Roll up to the ‘Dr Bike’ clinic for free minor repairs, safety checks, and maintenance advice. Watch mini demos on puncture repairs, brake and gear adjustments, and helmet fitting. Local cyclists will be on hand to share route planning tips, club info, and leisure cycling advice.
  • Happy Skate: Bring your tote bags (or grab one from the surplus stock) and get ready to screen print some Totes Amazeballs designs.
  • The Photocopy Club: Check out the In Transit project, where you’ll learn to turn your phone photos into printed zines. It’s all about getting creative and sharing your work with the world!
  • Teenage Market: This is the ultimate after-school hangout spot. Expect a safe, creative environment with pop-up workshops, stalls, live music, and young DJs spinning the decks.

This event is part of the Folke About Town program, bringing vibrancy to Sandgate Road and Guildhall Street, and mirroring the physical regeneration planned for the wider area.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council Cabinet member for the District Economy, Cllr Rich Holgate, said:

“Folke About Town is all about seeing what type of events work to energise the heart of Folkestone.

“While I might not exactly be the target demographic, I absolutely know this is going to be a great event for younger people, so it’ll definitely be one to check out.”

This series of test events is being co-produced with businesses and individuals in the community with the aim that successful ones will be sustained into the future. This comes after the success of the first Folke About Town event, Folkestone Food Festival, which saw local food vendors, musicians and food trucks come together to create an exciting social space.
