Kent Police are seeking witnesses following an alleged assault on a police officer in Canterbury.

On Friday, 30 August 2024, officers were in the city centre discussing the legalities of electric bike usage with riders. During this time, one electric bike user allegedly attempted to flee and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer.

The incident occurred around 6:30 PM at the junction of St George’s Street and Canterbury Lane. During the arrest, an officer was reportedly bitten on the hand. A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody and later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Police believe several bystanders may have witnessed the incident and possibly recorded it on their phones. However, they have not yet come forward.
