At around 11:00am on Sunday, 15 September 2024, officers in Rainham High Street spotted a blue Ford Focus driven by a man suspected of assault. The suspect led police into the Tesco car park near Hoath Way, crashing into two other vehicles before speeding off again. The pursuit ended on Hempstead Road, where the driver was finally arrested.

A 35-year-old man from Chatham is now facing a slew of charges: dangerous driving, no insurance, and driving without a valid licence. He is also charged with assault and making threats to destroy property from an incident on 19 August.

He made his first court appearance on Monday, 16 September, and is set for another hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday, 15 October.

Police are urgently appealing to anyone with dashcam footage of the chase to come forward. If you have any information, call Kent Police on 01634 792209, quoting reference 46/YY/14494/24. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555111 or via their online form.
