Hundreds of people turned out to see the reopened Roman Painted House which opened its doors as part of Dover’s Heritage Open Days weekend.
Over the weekend (14-15 September), nearly 750 visitors came to see the monument with £150 raised in donations. Going forward, the attraction will be open to the public, free of charge, every Saturday until the end of November 2024 so don’t miss out – make sure you come to see this fascinating monument!
It will then be open from February half term holiday 2025 to the end of November 2025 in line with other heritage-based attractions.
Dover District Council leader Cllr Kevin Mills said:
“We were delighted to see so many visitors to the Roman Painted House over the weekend which reflects how important this attraction is to the people of Dover and beyond.
“We were thrilled to hear many lovely comments and we received lots of positive feedback from visitors, which again shows how excited people are that this wonderful monument is open again.
“This is an exciting time for Dover and the Roman Painted House forms a key part of the town’s regeneration. There is still much to do, but we are pleased we have been able to reopen the attraction, and we thank our partners for their hard work and support.”
