Two men are out on bail following their arrest in connection with a suspected poaching incident where officers seized hunting equipment and wildlife. The arrests were the result of a swift response by the Rural Task Force on the evening of Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
At 9:47 PM, police received a report from a member of the public alleging they had seen individuals engaging in ‘lamping’—a method of hunting that uses powerful lights to disorient animals—and using catapults on private land in Woolage Village. Working quickly with the informant, officers identified the suspects and their vehicle just 20 minutes after the initial call. To avoid alerting the suspects, officers approached the area discreetly, keeping their lights and sirens off.
A search of the vehicle uncovered evidence of illegal poaching activity. Items seized included three catapults with a large quantity of ball bearings, a powerful torch, two head-mounted torches, and six dead pheasants. Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested at the scene. They have since been released on bail as enquiries continue.
