Cosmetics valued at £2,500 have been recovered following a suspected bulk shoplifting incident in Maidstone.

Five people were apprehended after an alert was raised via the Maidsafe radio-operated monitoring system, which connects businesses throughout the town to help detect and combat crime.

Police responded at around 5pm on Monday, 30 September 2024, to reports of suspicious activity at a store in Fremlin Walk. Officers stopped a Volkswagen Golf near Fairmeadow, leading to the discovery of several large bags containing makeup, medicinal products, and confectionery.

Two adults have been charged with theft and are scheduled to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on 18 October. Three teenagers remain under investigation and have been bailed to return to a police station on 5 October.
