Fifth man arrested following Canterbury High Street murder

Detectives in Canterbury who are continuing to investigate after a 23-year-old man died following an assault in the city’s High Street on Thursday 10 October 2024 , have now arrested a fifth man.

Four arrests were made in the hours after the incident, with two men later being charged with murder and two others being bailed while a fifth man has now been arrested, on Wednesday 16 October, on suspicion of assisting offenders.

The latest man arrested, a 23-year-old from the Herne Bay area, has also been bailed pending further enquiries.

A 24-year-old-man from Canterbury and a man aged 31, of no fixed address, were previously charged with murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place in relation to the incident. The younger man is also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Both have been remanded in custody and are next due to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 18 October.
