Dover man jailed for night-time weapons threat in Ramsgate

A 24-year-old man from Dover has been sentenced to a year and two months in prison after being found in possession of an imitation firearm and a knife during a night out in Ramsgate.

On Monday, May 27, 2024, at around 12:30 AM, Kent Police received reports of a man wielding a potential handgun and making threats in the town. Armed officers were promptly dispatched to the area and apprehended Kaine Morley, 24, from Dover. A subsequent search of Morley revealed a BB gun and a knife in his possession. He was subsequently charged with possession of an imitation firearm and a bladed article.

Morley pleaded guilty to both charges at Canterbury Crown Court and was sentenced on Friday, October 25. The prison term also accounted for the activation of two suspended sentences he was concurrently serving.

Detective Constable Glenn Day, the investigating officer, said: “There is absolutely no justification for carrying weapons, as it poses a significant risk to both the individual and others. I am satisfied with the swift apprehension and subsequent conviction of Morley. This sentence serves as a strong deterrent to anyone considering carrying weapons.”
