A prolific thief has been banned from key areas of Margate’s shopping district for two years. Lewis Collard, 31, from Margate, was given the order by Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 24 October.

The court heard how Collard had been charged with 20 shoplifting offences, as well as burglary and criminal damage, between August 2022 and January 2024 and as part of the order, Collard is prohibited from entering:

  • College Walk
  • Aldi in Zion Place
  • Boots in the High Street (unless collecting a prescription)

He is also banned from associating with another named individual in public.

Sergeant Daniel Bartlett said:

“Shoplifting can have a significant negative impact on both victims and the wider community. We are committed to taking action against offenders and using every tool at our disposal to prevent repeat offending. This criminal behaviour order will help to protect local businesses and residents.”

Police warned that Collard could be arrested if he breaches the order.
