Detectives charge man with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in Margate

A suspect has been charged in connection with assaults in which people were allegedly sprayed with a toxic substance in Margate.

The alleged incident, took place shortly before 1.15am on Saturday 9 November 2024, when a group of people were reportedly involved in a disturbance in Mansion Street, which runs between Fort Road and The Parade.

During the incident, a man allegedly sprayed others with a liquid, believed to have been a strong alkali, causing two people to sustain facial injuries and a further two to suffer reddening and irritation to their faces or chest. Officers attended the scene and seized a bottle believed to have contained the substance used. On Monday 11 November, a man was arrested on suspicion of assault and remained in custody while enquiries continued.

A 19-year-old man from Ramsgate, has today, Tuesday 12 November 2024 been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a corrosive substance (ammonia) in a public place, and administering a noxious thing with intent to injure or aggrieve. He was remanded to appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court later today.
