A persistent shoplifter has been sent to prison after ignoring a court order banning him from Tunbridge Wells stores. Tommy Robertson, 59, breached a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) by entering the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre and attempting to steal nearly £1,000 worth of clothing on November 4th.
The CBO, imposed in May 2024, prohibits him from entering the shopping centre and other stores in the town, including Tesco. Robertson pleaded guilty to attempted theft and breach of a CBO at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on November 8th. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
Sergeant Chris Wells said,
“Robertson’s repeated offending has harmed local businesses. This sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate such behaviour.”
