Kent Police take to the skies after attacks on major roads

Kent Police are deploying drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras in response to a series of attacks on drivers on the A2 and M20 motorways. The incidents, which occurred on the evening of Thursday, November 7th, saw objects thrown or fired at vehicles, damaging windows and bodywork. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

“Throwing objects at moving traffic is incredibly dangerous,” said Chief Inspector Craig West of Kent Police. “We’re taking these reports seriously and have increased patrols, including unmarked vehicles, in the affected areas.”

In a new tactic, Kent Police are utilizing drones with thermal imaging to monitor footpaths and wooded areas near the affected sections of the A2 and M20. This technology will allow officers to quickly identify and respond to any suspicious activity that could lead to further attacks.

“The drones will be a valuable tool in deterring further incidents and helping us identify those responsible,” Chief Inspector West added. “We’re grateful for the assistance of our volunteer officers from the Special Constabulary as well.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact Kent Police online at www.kent.police.uk/report, quoting reference 46/189304/24 for the A2 or reference 46/190243/24 for the M20.
