Two suspects have been formally charged in connection with an ongoing investigation into a bank card stolen from a local shopper.

The incident occurred on November 5th, 2024, when a woman’s purse was stolen from her vehicle in a supermarket car park on Simone Weil Avenue. Subsequent to the theft, the stolen bank card was allegedly used fraudulently on multiple occasions at various shops within the town. The fraudulent transactions totalled approximately £2,000, encompassing gift cards, a mobile phone, foreign currency, and other goods.

Local police investigated, leading to the identification of a suspect vehicle and the arrest of two men on November 8th. A man aged 52, from London, is facing charges of theft and fraud and a 56-year-old from Telford is charged with assisting an offender in committing theft and fraud. Both suspects appeared in Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on November 11th and are scheduled for a subsequent hearing at Margate Magistrates’ Court on December 9th.
