Phone thief strikes Folkestone fast food joint

Diners Beware! A sneaky thief has targeted unsuspecting customers in Folkestone, making off with a mobile phone from McDonald’s on West Terrace.

The incident, reported to Kent Police on Monday, November 18, saw a teenage boy allegedly distract a woman and her friend before swiping their iPhone. The crafty crook is believed to have hidden the phone under a piece of paper, slipping it away unnoticed.

The suspect is described as a mixed-race male, around 17 years old, with short dark hair and dressed in black. Police are urging diners to be extra cautious and keep a close eye on their belongings, especially when in crowded areas.

Detective Inspector Carlo Capozzi said:

‘While my officers are investigating this report, I would urge people to be particularly careful with personal property when out in public, and when approached by someone they do not know.

‘Don’t be afraid to check that your valuables are secure before considering whether you wish to engage in conversation. Never leave valuables unattended, even for few moments.

‘Don’t advertise your phone to thieves by leaving it on display – keep your belongings tucked away safely, in a zipped pocket or bag.

‘Also, consider mobile phone tracking if you don’t already have this enabled on a smartphone. Apps can help you trace your device if it gets lost or stolen, so contact your service provider and enquire about what is available.’
