Kent Police arrested a man near Tunbridge Wells who, just hours after being released from prison, made threats to cut a person’s throat.
Callum Jefferys has now been jailed again after he abused and threatened to kill his victim during a late-night disturbance in Rusthall.
Patrols arrived at the Cranwell Road area on 15 August 2024 where Jefferys had been outside a property shouting threats which suggested he may also have had a knife. The intimidation included punching a hole in the victim’s fence.
The 28-year-old had just been released from prison, following a sentence linked to assaults and abuse in Rusthall last year. He was arrested, charged and remanded in custody, pending the outcome of the latest investigation.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Jefferys pleaded guilty to making threats to kill as well as charges of criminal damage, which related to spitting and breaking a light in a police van, and urinating on the floor of a custody cell. A further count of criminal damage (linked to the fence) was ordered by the court to lie on file.
On 13 November, a community order which had been in place when he left prison in August was revoked. Jefferys, of no fixed address, was sentenced to two years and three months’ imprisonment and upon his release, he will be subject to a restraining order which includes measures restricting areas he can enter in Rusthall.
PC Adam Foreman said:
‘Jefferys actions have caused considerable fear, distress, and anxiety, not only to those he sought to threaten and intimidate, but also to the wider community in Rusthall.
‘Residents should be able to feel safe in their own homes and not have to endure his appalling behaviour and I hope that this latest sentence will provide some reassurance now that he is again back in prison.’
