Suspected rogue trader scammed elderly victim and left their Swanley home in need of repair!

A suspected rogue trader accused of targeting a vulnerable pensioner with a roof repair scam in Swanley has been arrested. It is reported that thousands of pounds in cash were stolen and the elderly victim was left with a home in disrepair.

Kent Police was made aware of fraudulent behaviour at an address near Warren Road between 17 and 18 October 2024 after two men offered to repair leaky guttering at the address. They allegedly demanded the victim pay in cash up front for materials and continued to inflate the cost of repairs, without completing the job.

A 44 year old man from Edenbridge was arrested on 27 November on suspicion of fraud by false representation in relation to the incident, as well as incidents in Southwark and Croydon in London, East Grinstead in West Sussex, and Edenbridge. He has since been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Further reports of similar suspicious activity have also been brought to the attention of officers in New Ash Green and Dartford, where two men have been offering to complete work to roofs and guttering.
