Police on patrol in Sittingbourne Image: Kent Police

Fed up with the unruly behaviour of a minority of youths, police have taken decisive action in Sittingbourne.

Over the weekend, a dispersal order was slapped on the town’s retail park, sending a clear message that anti-social behaviour won’t be tolerated. Officers were out in force, issuing warnings, seizing bikes, and dispersing groups of troublemakers.

One brazen thief, an 18-year-old woman from Chatham, was collared after allegedly stealing a haul of goods worth £400 from M&S Foodhall. She’s been charged and is due in court next month.

Local businesses and shoppers have welcomed the police crackdown, saying it’s about time someone stood up to the yobs.

Chief Inspector Allen Searle said:

‘We are aware of the concerns raised by residents and business owners about the disorderly conduct of some adults and a number young people in the town. Our officers are determined to tackle these incidents and, where young people are involved, will be liaising directly with their parents.

‘I would encourage anyone with concerns about crime or nuisance behaviour to speak to our visible patrols who are out and about in the town, or report the issue to us online. This will allow us to effectively deploy our resources to the relevant locations at the right time of the day, and to target those who cause the most harm to our community.’
