An arrest has been made following a blaze at a property in Guildhall Street, Canterbury on Monday 2 December 2024. Kent Police patrols attended the city centre at around 8.45pm that evening after the fire was reported.

Officers closed nearby roads and some residents were evacuated from adjacent properties while Kent Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze.

The following day, Tuesday 3 December, a 15-year-old boy from the local area attended Canterbury police station and was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of arson. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.

Police and fire crews remain at the scene of the fire and continue to work to make the area safe.
