Folkestone Town Mayor hosts ‘Magical’ Christmas Concert for Primary School pupils

This year there were almost 200 children from 7 local schools attending the St Mary and St Eanswythe Church to take part in Cllr Abena Akuffo-Kelly’s Christmas Concert, led by Father Christopher Johnson.

The children were all on their best behaviour and seemed to really enjoy the festive event. Carols such as Little Donkey, We Three Kings and We Wish You A Merry Christmas amongst others were enthusiastically sung. Children also took part in readings, one school wrote Christmas Poems and another Christmas Prayers. The children were all extremely brave to stand at the front of the Church and read out their work in front of their fellow peers.

The Mayor gave a brief address to the children, wishing them a Merry Christmas and highlighting the importance of thinking about those more in need than ourselves at this special time of year.

The children and teachers all received a chocolate on their way out of the Church as a thank you for attending the Concert.

The Mayor said

“First I want to say a huge thank you to all the children who attended the carol service. Your enthusiasm, beautiful singing, and cheerful presence truly made the event one of the most magical and most enjoyable that I have attended since becoming Mayor.

“I was so impressed with how well you all behaved and how well you read your bible passages and poems. You are a credit to your schools, teachers and parents and should be so proud of yourselves.  You helped spread the joy and spirit of Christmas to everyone who attended, and we are so grateful for your participation.

“We hope you had as much fun as we did celebrating this special time of year together.

“To the adults who were involved, thank you for your continued support of this very special event. I know that without your efforts none of this would be possible. To the adults and the children, I wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with happiness and blessings.”
