Suspect appears in court following attempted street robbery for food in Gravesend

A suspect has appeared in court following a swift police response to an attempted robbery incident on Canal Road early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 2am on December 12th, where a man on a bicycle allegedly threatened two individuals twice, once with a weapon, while demanding food. Officers promptly responded to the scene and apprehended a suspect, seizing three knives, a toy gun, and a quantity of cannabis in the process.

The 23-year-old man, with no fixed address, was subsequently charged with two counts of attempted robbery, three counts of possessing a bladed article in a public place, possessing an imitation firearm in a public place, and possession of cannabis.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was conditionally bailed to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on January 10th, 2025.
