Police advice to deter thieves
- Be sure to keep purses and bags closed at all times.
- If possible, carry bags in front of you or across your chest.
- Consider using a purse chain, or a money belt if you have cash on your person.
- Keep wallets and purses in zipped pockets that don’t bulge. If you have a pocket inside your jacket, this is the best place for valuables.
- Avoid backpacks, as skilled thieves can easily take things without being detected.
- Do not leave bags hanging on pushchairs or chairbacks.
