A robber who was arrested by Kent Police less than four hours after he stole cash from a post office in Broadstairs has been jailed.
Harry Marshall, 20, was sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment after pleading guilty to the robbery, which took place at Dumpton Post Office on Saturday 3 August 2024.
Kent Police was called to Ramsgate Road at 6.42am after Marshall threatened his victim with a blade and demanded that money be handed to him. Marshall fled the post office with cash from the till – dropping an extendable baton in the process – and then left the area on a moped.
Police arrived at the scene and enquiries led to the swift arrest of Marshall a short while afterwards, after the moped he was riding was spotted nearby. Cash was also seized following a search. On Sunday 3 August, Marshall was charged with robbery, possession of a knife and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He pleaded guilty and on Thursday 19 December was jailed for two and a half years at Canterbury Crown Court.
Detective Sergeant Vanessa Law said:
‘Marshall put his victim through a frightening experience, making him believe he would be harmed if he refused to hand over the money from his business. Marshall’s despicable actions that day have had a lasting impact on his victim and it is right that a custodial sentence has been imposed. We will always strive to bring offenders such as Marshall to justice.’
