Shortly after midnight on Tuesday 17 December 2024, a woman visited a friend at some flats in Overcliffe, Gravesend to check on her welfare, as there appeared to be a disturbance.
When the door was opened it is reported she was struck on the head and face. The victim left the scene and the police were immediately contacted. Patrols arrived a short time later and a man was detained. However, following the arrest it is alleged several constables were assaulted and a police vehicle was spat in.
A man from Maidstone, was later charged with assault by beating, criminal damage and five counts of assaulting an emergency worker. The 26-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 18 December. He was remanded to a hearing at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on Christmas Eve.
