A man has been arrested in Ramsgate and another in Esher in connection with the rape of a 19-year-old man in Brighton in the early hours of last Saturday.

The victim reported that he was approached by two unknown men near Harry Ramsdens on Old Steine around 3:30 AM on Saturday 21 December and subsequently raped in nearby Steine Lane. A passerby came to the victim’s aid and contacted the police. The victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers.

Following an investigation, a 40-year-old man from Redhill, Surrey, was arrested in Esher, and a 42-year-old man from Kingston-upon-Thames, was arrested in Ramsgate, Kent. Both men were taken into custody on Thursday on suspicion of rape and remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Sean Booth stated,

“These arrests are a direct result of the excellent work of our dedicated team, officers, and the public.”

He urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Sussex police online or by calling 101, citing Operation Attach.
