A joint police and council operation in Folkestone resulted in the seizure of an e-scooter and multiple traffic fines to motorists. The operation, conducted on Monday, December 30th, focused on improving road safety in key areas of the town, including Tram Road, Tontine Street, The Leas, and Cheriton Road.
Over 30 vehicles were stopped and inspected. Police officers engaged with drivers, addressing concerns about driving behavior and vehicle condition. Eight drivers received Traffic Offence Reports for various violations, including mobile phone use while driving, speeding, failure to wear seatbelts, and inadequate insurance.
Furthermore, several drivers were instructed to rectify issues such as worn-out tyres and faulty lights. A significant focus of the operation was on e-scooter safety. One e-scooter was seized due to the rider’s failure to maintain proper insurance.
PC Kevin Marsh said:
‘At all times of the year, it is important that motorists take responsibility for keeping other road users and pedestrians safe, by driving in accordance with the law and keeping their vehicles in good condition.
‘The law on e-scooters is also clear: It is illegal to ride them on public roads or pavements, and we will seize them when we see them being ridden irresponsibly.
‘We will continue to carry out operations of this kind and I urge drivers to make sure their vehicle is safe and they are driving safely.’
