In a poignant tribute to a fallen colleague, PC Nick Lingham and a team of 20 cyclists embarked on a grueling 360-mile journey, exceeding their initial goal of raising £2,500 for two defibrillators along the River Medway towpath. Inspired by his late friend, PC Adrian Debnam, Nick organized the charity cycle to enhance community safety.
The successful fundraiser not only met its initial target but surpassed expectations, allowing for the purchase of a third defibrillator. Furthermore, the funds covered essential maintenance costs, including replacement pads and batteries for all three units.
The newly installed defibrillators are strategically located near Allington Locks, Mill Meadow, and Fairmeadow, providing vital access to life-saving equipment in case of emergencies along the riverbank.
Maidstone County Council has committed to covering the ongoing running costs, while local businesses have generously stepped forward to shoulder the annual electricity expenses for the units in their vicinity.
PC Nick Lingham said:
“Adrian and I shared a vision of improving safety along the River Medway by installing readily accessible defibrillators.”
“Tragically, Adrian passed away before we could realize this plan together. This cycle ride and the successful installation of these life-saving devices are a testament to his memory and the support of the community.”
