Three men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and vehicle theft following a swift police operation involving proactive patrols and a dedicated police dog.

The incident began on New Year’s Day 2025 when a works van was reported stolen from a property on Star Hill after the keys were taken. Detectives initiated an immediate investigation. In the early hours of Saturday, January 4th, officers identified the stolen vehicle traveling along the M2 motorway before it entered the Medway Services.

Responding swiftly, officers located the unattended van in the parking area. Police Dog Billy was deployed to track the vehicle’s occupants. The skilled canine followed a scent trail, leading officers to three men hiding behind nearby rubbish bins.

The key to the stolen van was recovered from the ground and the suspects, aged between 24 and 48, were subsequently arrested and later conditionally bailed pending further investigation, including forensic examinations.

This successful apprehension highlights the crucial role of proactive policing and the invaluable assistance of police dogs in combating crime.
