In a dramatic late-night operation, officers from the east Kent policing team seized a significant amount of cash, a stash of cigarettes, plus a baseball bat following a suspicious vehicle stop on the A2 near Barham.

The incident unfolded shortly before 10:30 pm on Monday, January 20th, when officers on patrol watched a Ford Focus exhibiting suspicious driving behavior. A subsequent stop and search of the vehicle yielded a remarkable haul of approximately £5,000 in cash, a staggering 10,000 cigarettes, and a baseball bat, raising immediate suspicions of illicit activity.

The driver, unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the possession of these items, was promptly arrested on suspicion of money laundering. The investigation took a further twist with the subsequent search of a property in the Canterbury area, where an additional £12,000 in cash and 200 pouches of tobacco were discovered and seized.

The 21-year-old suspect remains in police custody as detectives delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this incident. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the east Kent policing team to disrupt organized crime and maintain the safety of the local community.
