Neighbourhood Police officers together with colleagues from Medway Council’s Community Safety and Street Scene Team, have been tackling antisocial behaviour during another day of high profile enforcement on Friday 24 January 2025 and they promise more to come!
Areas of Rochester and Strood were patrolled on foot, with vehicles travelling into the towns being stopped and checked in response to concerns raised by residents and business owners.
- Seven e-scooter riders were stopped and received formal warnings whilst their vehicles were seized.
- A number of people were advised about their conduct with two receiving fixed penalty notices for breaching the conditions of a Public Space Protection Order. This included a man drinking in a prohibited area and whose alcohol was seized.
- Multiple vehicles were stopped with four motorists receiving traffic reports for offences including driving without a licence and no insurance.
- Two people were arrested on suspicion of theft and assault, and a third was detained as he was wanted on a court warrant.
- Throughout the day, pubs and clubs in the area were visited to ensure they were complying with licensing conditions and to offer support with any emerging issues.
Police Sergeant Chris Watson, of the Medway Community Safety Unit, said:
‘We have completed another of our regular enforcement days in an effort to tackle the small minority of people who persist in acting in an antisocial or disorderly manner.
‘Working with our partners, we were able to use a range of tactics including words of advice, vehicle seizures, reporting for summons and arrests when appropriate. These days of action will continue over coming months.’
