Violent suspect charged in North Kent retail crime crackdown

Kent Police was called at 2.38pm on Monday 10 February 2025 to a report of a theft at the Lidl store in West Street, Sittingbourne.

Continued efforts to tackle retail crime in north Kent have led to a further suspected shoplifter being charged when it’s reported a man entered the supermarket and it is alleged packets of meat were stolen.

A member of staff was reportedly assaulted and the suspect left the store on foot.

Officers arrived on the scene and detained a man nearby, who was taken into custody. A search led to the recovery of suspected stolen items including cosmetics and a DVD. The following day, a 43-year-old man from Rochester was charged with five counts of theft and assault by beating. He was remanded to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 12 February.
