Several people were arrested and dangerous drivers reported during vehicle checks by police in Stanhope Road, Brookfield Road, Hythe Road and Bybrook Road areas of Ashford on Friday 28 February 2025.
Officers stopped vehicles being driven in a dangerous or antisocial manner, or which looked poorly maintained. They also carried out checks for cars reportedly stolen or linked to crime.
Class A drugs were found in one car stopped in West Street. The two occupants were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and the driver additionally for suspected drug driving. Meanwhile, a car was spotted in Godington Road which had previously been linked to the theft of fuel from a petrol station. It was stopped and the driver was arrested. She has since been charged with making off without payment and is due in court in March.
During their patrols, officers also spotted a suspect wanted in relation to a domestic abuse investigation and he was arrested in Bank Street.
As well as the arrests, officers also reported three drivers for offences including driving without insurance, driving without a seatbelt and using a mobile phone at the wheel.
Inspector Jason Bushell said:
‘This operation shows the importance of community policing officers, equipped with good-quality information, patrolling the streets of Ashford.
‘As well as taking action against dangerous drivers, we have arrested four suspects for other offences and work is ongoing to bring them before the courts.
‘We will continue to carry out operations of this kind, to keep the roads safe for drivers and pedestrians alike, and make sure criminals have nowhere to hide.’
