A new retirement living development, “Juliette House,” is set to grace Westgate-on-Sea, offering a fitting tribute to the beloved sitcom star, Juliette Kaplan, who famously portrayed Pearl in “Last of the Summer Wine” and called Westgate-on-Sea home.
McCarthy Stone, the UK’s leading developer of retirement communities, has chosen to honour Kaplan’s enduring legacy by naming their latest project after her. For many, Juliette Kaplan was Pearl, the long-suffering wife in the iconic sitcom, navigating the comedic chaos of Howard’s wandering eye. Her portrayal, spanning 226 episodes from 1985 to 2010, left an indelible mark on viewers, and now, her memory will live on in this new community.
“Juliette House,” located on Canterbury Road, will offer 35 meticulously designed one and two-bedroom retirement apartments, tailored to support the over 60s in enjoying a fulfilling retirement. Just as Pearl navigated the challenges and joys of her life in “Last of the Summer Wine,” residents of Juliette House will find a supportive and vibrant community.
The development will feature communal spaces, including a welcoming lounge and landscaped gardens, fostering opportunities for social interaction and relaxation – reminiscent of the camaraderie seen in the sitcom’s iconic setting. Just as Pearl’s home was a central point in her fictional life, Juliette House will be a central point for residents.
“At McCarthy Stone, we are dedicated to creating communities where retirees can thrive,” says Rebecca Johnson, Sales Director. “Naming this development ‘Juliette House’ is a way to celebrate Juliette Kaplan’s contribution to entertainment and her connection to Westgate-on-Sea, while providing a place where residents can create their own lasting memories.”
Residents will have a short walk to the town centre and less than a kilometre to West Bay’s beach, along with a five-minute walk to the train station. A House Manager will be on-site, and state-of-the-art security features, including a 24-hour emergency call system, will ensure peace of mind. “Juliette House” will be able to live their own “last of the summer” years, with comfort, community, and a touch of nostalgic charm!
