Hythe is buzzing with excitement as plans have been approved for 26 brand-new, affordable, and environmentally conscious homes! This fantastic development marks a significant step forward in the council’s commitment to providing much-needed housing for local residents, while also prioritizing sustainability.

Set to grace Boundary Road, on the former Smiths medical site, these homes will offer a diverse range of living options, including 14 one-bedroom flats, six two-bedroom flats, three two-bedroom houses, and three three-bedroom houses. A total of 20 flats will be available for affordable rent through the council’s housing list, while the six houses will offer a pathway to homeownership through shared ownership schemes. Residents can look forward to moving into their new homes in 2026.

What makes this development truly special is its dedication to green living. The apartment buildings and houses, part of the wider Sutherland Park development by Roddy New Homes, will be 100% fossil fuel-free! Thanks to air source heat pumps and solar panels residents will be living in a home powered by clean energy!

“I am delighted that we are able to provide more homes for our tenants through this Hythe scheme,” said Cllr Rebecca Shoob, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness. “These homes are further evidence of our commitment to provide housing that is both affordable to rent and affordable to heat.”

Cllr Jim Martin, F&HDC leader and Hythe ward councillor, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “We are absolutely delighted to be able to provide new affordable homes in Hythe. Affordable homes are needed across the district, but these are the first to be built in Hythe for many years.”

John Roddy, Managing Director of Roddy New Homes, added,

“We are delighted to be delivering 26 much needed affordable, energy efficient homes for Folkestone & Hythe District Council on a brownfield site at Sutherland Park. We look forward to working with the council and all the homes are planned to be handed over in the next 12 months.”

The development is an example of how community needs and environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand, creating a brighter, greener future for Hythe residents.
