It’s reported a violent man has been sent immediately to prison after assaulting four officers in Medway. The incidents happened when patrols arrived at an address in Bryant Street, Chatham, to arrest Kye Hooper for an unconnected matter, at around 10.40pm on Wednesday 19 March 2025.
Hooper was detained but, as he was being transported to the police station, he headbutted and kicked two constables. He then spat in a patrol vehicle and assaulted two further officers in the custody area.
Hooper, from Gillingham, was later charged with four assaults on an emergency worker and criminal damage. The 37-year-old was remanded in custody and on the following day pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court to all the charges. He was sent straight to prison for 16 weeks.
District Commander for Medway, Chief Inspector Garry Cooke, said:
‘Kent’s emergency services should be able to go about their duties assisting the public without being abused or assaulted. In this incident, the appalling behaviour of this man directed towards my officers was entirely unacceptable and he was swiftly brought before the court to answer for his actions.’
