A man has been charged following the discovery of a loaded handgun at a property near Ashford.

Officers executed a warrant at a residential address in Westwell, early Sunday. During the search, a police dog located the loaded firearm in the loft. A knuckleduster was also seized from the premises.

A 38-year-old man from Westwell was arrested and subsequently charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and possession of a knuckleduster.

He appeared before Margate magistrates on Monday and has been remanded in custody. The next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, May 12, at Canterbury Crown Court.
