Medway police have brought two separate theft cases involving local B&M stores before the courts.

In one incident, on April 12, Strood B&M staff reported the recovery of £88 worth of hair and makeup, leading to the arrest of a woman on April 28. She has since been charged with attempted theft and bailed conditionally following a court appearance, with a further hearing scheduled for July 10.

Separately, a man was sentenced after admitting to stealing vacuum cleaners worth £297 from a Gillingham B&M on two occasions in March and April. Arrested on April 27, he pleaded guilty and received a community order requiring 60 hours of unpaid work and full compensation to the store.

Inspector Paul Diddams said:

‘We are determined to tackle the scourge of shop theft and, where we can identify suspects, will work relentlessly to track them down. Persistent offenders should expect to be remanded in custody to appear before the court at the earliest opportunity.’
