Hotel staff across Swale, in North Kent have received training from local police to help them identify potential victims of exploitation, particularly children.
Over a number of days from Monday, May 12, 2025, officers visited nine businesses as part of a proactive campaign aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals.
Police engaged with staff in public-facing roles, such as receptionists, providing crucial reminders on recognizing indicators that a guest may be at risk. The training also outlined the necessary steps for staff to take to facilitate police intervention and ensure the safety of potential victims.
The initiative underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement in Swale to safeguarding the vulnerable within the community.
Inspector Joe Breen said:
‘We remain aware that hotel accommodation can often be used by offenders intent on exploiting potential victims, and these visits are intended to encourage vigilance from employees in the hospitality sector.
‘With the guidance provided by our officers, it is hoped vulnerable children can be spotted and contact made with the police to ensure steps are taken to safeguard them.’
