Residents of Folkestone are being urged to remain vigilant following a recent surge in motorcycle thefts across the town. Police have confirmed they are investigating six incidents of theft and attempted theft of motorcycles within the last fortnight.
Officers report that multiple vehicles have been taken from outside private residences in the past two weeks, prompting them to advise the public to take extra precautions to safeguard their property. The most recent incident involved the overnight theft of a Black Suzuki motorcycle from Broadmead Road. Evidence at the scene included drag marks on the ground and a discarded motorcycle cover.
Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding these incidents to come forward. They are also advising motorcycle owners to consider using additional security measures such as disc locks, chains, and secure storage where possible.
Inspector Carlo Capozzi from the Folkestone Community Safety Unit said:
‘Following reports of motorcycle thefts in Folkestone, we are urging owners to take extra steps to protect their bikes.
‘Residents can better protect themselves through measures like using a disc lock, fitting a tracker, and securing their motorcycle to an immovable object. When possible, try to park in well-lit busy areas that are covered by CCTV.
‘If you see anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it to us.’
Anyone who has been a victim of theft should report it through the Kent Police website or call 999 if a crime is in progress.
