A Medway motorist has assisted neighbourhood officers to detain a shoplifting suspect. During the early evening of Saturday 24 May 2025, a police patrol was called to a report of a theft taking place at the BP petrol station in Maidstone Road, Chatham.
The suspect was spotted near the scene and one of the officers pursued him on foot along Elm Avenue. A second constable flagged down a passing motorist who drove him to Wyles Road where a man was stopped and arrested.
A man from Maidstone was later charged with eight thefts at businesses in Chatham and Maidstone, between Thursday 3 April and Saturday 24 May. The 29-year-old, was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 May.
