SSE Renewables, a leading developer and operator of renewable energy generation, focusing on onshore and offshore wind, hydro, solar and battery storage has launched a public consultation for its ambitious Shepway Energy Park, a proposed solar and battery facility on Romney Marsh.

The project aims to generate enough carbon-free electricity to power approximately 73,000 homes – over 10% of Kent’s total – and save an estimated 49,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Located across six sites north and east of Newchurch, the Shepway Energy Park is envisioned to be operational by 2033. SSE Renewables, a leading UK renewable energy developer, highlights the project’s potential to enhance the nation’s energy security and contribute significantly to net-zero targets.

The initial public consultation, which began on May 28th and runs until July 13th, invites local communities, businesses, and interested parties to provide feedback on the early-stage proposals.
