Residents in and around Lympne, near Hythe, are being advised to keep windows and doors closed due to significant smoke emanating from an agricultural fire on Aldington Road.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was called to the scene at 1:43 PM today, where a large muck heap was found ablaze. Four fire engines, a bulk water carrier, and an all-terrain vehicle were deployed to tackle the inferno.
Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, are using hose reel jets to extinguish the burning material and dampen down the surrounding area to prevent further spread.
A KFRS spokesperson stated that fires of this nature can take considerable time to burn out completely, leading to intermittent increases in smoke. As a precautionary measure, the public in the affected area, including those traveling nearby, are urged to keep their windows and doors shut.
Initially, crews advised those near Sellindge, between Hythe and Ashford, to take similar precautions due to heavy smoke conditions.
There have been no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is not yet known. KFRS is urging residents to share this important update with anyone in the affected area who may not have access to online information.
