Shoplifting Suspect Accused of Assaulting Faversham Cops

Quick action by neighbourhood constables led to the arrest and charging of a man suspected of stealing alcohol from a Faversham supermarket, though not without an alleged confrontation.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Sainsbury’s on Bysing Wood Road reported the theft of whisky and vodka. Officers swiftly began searching and found a suspect near Cobb Walk. During the arrest, two constables were reportedly assaulted before the individual was taken into custody.

The 26-year-old man, of no fixed address, has since been charged with the supermarket theft and two counts of assaulting a police officer. Further charges against him include another alcohol theft from the same store on Saturday, May 24, and the theft of tools from a van on The Knole, Faversham, on Sunday, May 25.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 30, and was remanded for a follow-up hearing at the same court today, Thursday, June 5.
