A suspected burglar has been charged following an early morning incident where a police dog successfully tracked a man to bushy undergrowth.
The arrest came after officers responded to a reported break-in at a local pharmacy. Kent Police were alerted to a burglary in progress at 12:46am on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at a pharmacy in Grovehurst Road. The individual reportedly fled the scene on foot.
Officers with Police Dog Lyra and her handler, initiated a search resulting in Lyra’s tracking leading them to a man hidden in nearby undergrowth, who was then detained.
Later that day, a 34-year-old individual was charged with attempted burglary. They also face charges of theft related to the reported stealing of power tools from a B&Q store in Whitstable on February 20, 2025, and with breaching a Community Behaviour Order.
The accused, of no fixed address, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 11, and was remanded to Maidstone Crown Court, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, July 30.
