Firefighters tackling a significant outbuilding fire in Barham, near Canterbury, utilized an unconventional water source – a nearby private swimming pool – to help extinguish the blaze.

Five fire engines were on the scene at the height of the incident, which occurred today on Valley Road. Crews deployed several main jets, effectively dousing the flames with water drawn directly from the pool.

The fire, first reported this morning, generated heavy smoke, prompting an earlier advisory for residents in Barham to keep windows and doors closed. This advice has now been lifted as firefighting operations concluded this afternoon.
