Two Charged After Shop Assault Leaves Security Guard with Serious Facial Injury

Two individuals have appeared in court following an assault at a local supermarket in Staplehurst, which left a security guard with serious facial injuries.

Police were called to a disturbance at a store in Market Street at approximately 9pm on June 3, 2025. Reports indicated that staff members had been threatened and assaulted while attempting to prevent the theft of alcohol. During the incident, a security guard was reportedly struck in the face with a drink can. Several glass bottles were also thrown, one of which shattered a glass door.

Responding officers swiftly located a vehicle believed to be driven by the suspects. It was stopped at 9.30pm the same evening, and both occupants were arrested.

On June 5, a 17-year-old boy from Marden appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty to robbery, affray, causing actual bodily harm, and criminal damage. He has been released on bail under strict conditions, awaiting sentencing at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on July 7.

Separately, an 18-year-old man from Staplehurst also faced charges, including affray, robbery, criminal damage, and assault. He did not enter any pleas and was remanded into custody. His next court hearing is scheduled for July 4 at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court.
