As summer approaches, local councils are rolling out a renewed effort to combat litter on our beloved beaches.

The successful #LoveYourBeach campaign, a joint initiative by Dover District Council and Folkestone & Hythe District Council, in partnership with their contractors Veolia, has officially launched, aiming to keep the coastline pristine throughout the holiday season.

The campaign introduces several new initiatives designed to raise awareness and improve waste management. A notable addition this year is the deployment of a brand-new e-bike collection vehicle in Deal and Walmer. These environmentally friendly, battery-powered bikes will facilitate the regular emptying of bins along the seaside promenade, allowing crews to access areas traditionally challenging for larger vehicles.

To further encourage responsible waste disposal, additional signage is being posted across the district, reminding residents and visitors to use bins provided or take their litter home with them.

In preparation for the influx of summer visitors, daily beach cleaning crews have already commenced operations, covering the stretch from Kingsdown to Sandown Castle. Furthermore, two new bins have been installed near the pier area on Deal Seafront, offering more convenient disposal options for beachgoers.

The councils are urging everyone to do their part in maintaining the beauty of our local beaches for all to enjoy this summer.

Cllr Edward Biggs, Cabinet Member for Planning and Built Environment on Dover District Council said:

“We love to see our residents and visitors safely enjoying themselves at the district’s beaches, making the most of these fantastic spaces, relaxing and creating amazing memories.  But it’s important to remember not to leave litter behind, to protect sea life and keep our district’s beaches safe and looking great for the future.”
