Two individuals have been apprehended and a stolen motorcycle recovered in Tunbridge Wells, marking the latest success in a concerted effort by local police to crack down on nuisance vehicles plaguing the area.
The arrests followed a dramatic foot chase through the High Brooms area on Wednesday evening, June 18, 2025. Officers, responding to ongoing community concerns about anti-social vehicle use, had been patrolling the High Brooms and Sherwood estates when they initially spotted the suspicious motorcycle in Liptraps Lane.
Checks revealed the bike had been reported stolen last month from the nearby Tonbridge area and was fitted with false number plates. The riders, both wearing balaclavas and no helmets, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot when confronted by police.
Their escape was short-lived, however, as officers successfully detained them at High Brooms train station. Both suspects were taken into custody.
A 16-year-old boy has since been charged with driving without a licence or insurance and assaulting an emergency worker. He has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on July 23.
The operation highlights Kent Police’s commitment to addressing local residents’ concerns and maintaining order on the roads.
Chief Inspector Mark Stubberfield said:
‘Over the summer months, we generally see an increase in reports of nuisance vehicles such as illegally ridden motorcycles. These bikes are often ridden in an antisocial and reckless manner, putting both riders, other road users and pedestrians at risk.
‘I hope these arrests help to show some of the work we are doing in Tunbridge Wells and that our officers are responding to local concerns.’We continue to urge residents to report all crime and incidents of antisocial behaviour. This is so important as it helps us build an accurate picture of where there may be persistent problems and means we can respond more robustly.’
