The Alkham Village Green flooding in December 2023
The grey skies threatened, but the spirit of Alkham shone brighter! On July 19th, the annual Alkham Fete burst to life on the village green, drawing a fantastic crowd despite the ominous weather forecasts. The sun prevailed, illuminating a vibrant scene of community celebration.
Long-serving Parish Council Chairman Neil Burrows, with an impressive two decades of service, officially declared the fete open. The green was abuzz with activity, featuring an eclectic mix of attractions. From the charming sheep of Wolverton Farm to the mysteries of the Astronomical Society, there was something for everyone. Demonstrations of vital community tools like the defibrillator stood alongside the graceful movements of Tai Chi. Later in the day, the laughter of children filled the air during lively games, culminating in a spirited tug-of-war.
A highlight of the day was the ever-popular dog parade. In a delightful twist this year, every canine participant received a well-deserved treat, making every tail waggingly happy. However, one clever contender, Dexter the German Shepherd, managed to snag two treats, making him the unofficial, and very happy, champion!
Huge congratulations and a massive thank you go to Paul Tapsell and his dedicated team for orchestrating such a successful event. Appreciation also extends to Den Barnard and all the wonderful volunteers who lent a hand on the day, making the Alkham Fete a truly memorable occasion.
