Victoria Park in Ashford Celebrates Prestigious Green Flag Award!

Victoria Park, a cherished green space in the heart of Ashford, has officially received the highly coveted Green Flag Award, an international quality mark for parks and green spaces. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the tireless dedication and collaborative spirit of everyone involved in making the park a truly outstanding public asset for the borough.

The Green Flag Award feedback report showered Victoria Park with praise, highlighting its “brilliant facilities for the local community,” “something for all ages and abilities,” and its role as “a real community hub.” The assessors also noted that “the whole site was looking excellent,” underscoring the exceptional standards maintained. This recognition aligns perfectly with Ashford’s Borough Plan, which aims to foster a thriving environment where people, businesses, and nature can coexist harmoniously. The award underscores the council’s commitment to providing beautiful green spaces that encourage activity, relaxation, and community building, all while prioritizing nature.

The rigorous assessment process for the Green Flag Award included thorough desk research and a comprehensive site visit conducted in May. The park was evaluated on various crucial criteria, including presentation, safety and security, maintenance of equipment, buildings, and landscaping, litter and cleanliness, and the overall promotion of the area and its facilities. Victoria Park now stands among 2,250 sites across the UK to achieve this prestigious accreditation, signifying its adherence to the highest standards of park management. This award is a powerful affirmation of the hard work and dedication of the team responsible for caring for Victoria Park, ensuring that both visitors and residents can continue to enjoy this exceptional green space for years to come.

Cllr Kate Walder, Cabinet Member for Parks & Recreation, said:

“I am extremely proud of the Victoria Park team and the local community who have worked hard to look after this wonderful asset – it truly is a lovely place to spend time with the family, enjoy leisure activities on offer or view the beautiful wildlife and nature around.
